Venerable Catherine McAuley: The Reluctant Nun

By Sister Mary Sarah Macht, RSM, MSN, FNP-BC

See this new interview about Venerable Mother Catherine McAuley, Foundress of the Religious Sisters of Mercy with Sr. Yvonne Mary Loucks, RSM, and Sr. Mary Cora Uryase, RSM.

Catherine McAuley’s life never turned out how she thought it would. As a child, her life was changed by the death of her parents. As a young woman, her life was changed by Providence. As a middle aged woman, God called her in a direction she never even considered and had even actively resisted. But the good Lord had her in his hands every step of the way. See how in this discussion with Sr. Yvonne Mary Loucks and Sr. Mary Cora Uryase, both Religious Sisters of Mercy, the order Ven. Catherine reluctantly founded that has now spread throughout the world.

“Let us imagine, then, that Our Lord says to us: ‘Go, labor in My vineyard. Preserve for Me these little reliquaries of Baptismal innocence. This is the service I require of you in My house.’ Let this command enkindle all our zeal. ”

— Mother Catherine McAuley
