COVID-19 Update

Those who are fully vaccinated no longer need to wear a mask or socially distance

On Thursday the CDC said that fully vaccinated people no longer need to wear a mask or practice social distancing in indoor and outdoor settings, unless where required by federal, state, local, tribal, or territorial laws, rules, and regulations, including local business and workplace guidance.
On Friday, Governor Whitmer announced that the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) is updating its Gatherings and Mask Order to align with the CDCs new recommendation. The new order goes into effect in Michigan on May 15.
Under the updated MDHHS Gatherings and Mask Order, Michiganders who are outdoors will no longer need to wear a mask regardless of vaccination status. While indoors, fully vaccinated Michiganders will no longer need to wear a mask, but residents who are not vaccinated, or have not completed their vaccinations, must continue to wear a mask or face covering to protect themselves and others from COVID-19.
Schools should continue to follow their COVID-19 safety plans and owners of private businesses may continue to require masking if they choose.

Pfizer vaccine approved for 12- to 15-year-olds
On May 12 the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices voted to recommend the Pfizer vaccine for adolescents 12-15 years of age under the FDA’s Emergency Use Authorization. The CDC and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services have accepted these recommendations. Minors ages 12 to 17 will need a parent or legal guardian to provide written consent for the vaccination.
