Primary Care Focused on Comprehensive, Whole-Person Health

Our primary care practice provides comprehensive health care and preventive care for adults across every stage of life. We combine evidence-based medicine with clinical expertise to diagnose, treat, and manage both acute and chronic conditions while promoting long-term wellness.

As Catholic health care providers, we are committed to honoring the dignity of every person. We understand that each patient’s medical history, lifestyle, and health goals are unique. That’s why we deliver personalized primary care tailored to individual needs rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.

Our services include:

  • Preventive care and annual wellness exams

  • Chronic disease management (such as diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease)

  • Acute illness diagnosis and treatment

  • Health screenings and risk assessments

  • Lifestyle and wellness counseling

We focus on identifying and addressing the root causes of illness—not just managing symptoms. Through comprehensive evaluations and thoughtful treatment plans, we help patients improve quality of life, restore balance, and achieve sustainable health outcomes.

Whether you need routine preventive care or ongoing management of complex medical conditions, our goal is to partner with you in achieving lasting health and wellness.

    Care Management

Managing medical issues can take time, but the journey to healing and wellness doesn’t have to be put on hold by chronic conditions. Our team-based approach to care management ensures our patients are part of a group of experts, focused on comprehensive healing, management and wellness. You can still be fully yourself regardless of what you are facing, and we consider it a privilege to help you get there.

    Women’s Care

Women are often the center of the health of their family – caring for their husbands, their children, their friends. But, unfortunately, in caring for the other, women can forget to take the time to care for themselves or too often find themselves in healthcare settings that don’t look at the full picture of everything they are carrying.

We believe women are worthy of healthcare that recognizes the truths of who they are and who they are made to be at each stage of life. We provide regular health check-ups and general practice health maintenance for women of all ages with a personal, reverent approach to each woman’s specific health needs.

Infertility is often the result of an ovulatory problem. By restoring ovulation, we can help couples conceive. By understanding the ovulatory cycle and restoring the hormonal balance necessary for ovulation, we can begin restoring health for women even prior to conception.

We have trained healthcare providers who can provide comprehensive assessments and care for couples.

    Endocrinology

Sister Grace Miriam Usala, MD, is currently accepting new patients with a broad range of endocrine and metabolic conditions, including type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus; Cushing’s disease and Cushing’s syndrome; pituitary adenomas; osteoporosis; hyponatremia; hypoadrenalism; hyperaldosteronism; hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism; hypogonadism; hyperparathyroidism; hyperlipidemia; and polycystic ovarian syndrome.

In addition to comprehensive general endocrinology care, she has a special interest in osteoporosis associated with hyponatremia (low sodium) and atypical forms of diabetes mellitus, reflecting her ongoing research and scholarly work in these areas.

With prior experience as a primary care internal medicine physician and a background in clinical research, she values close collaboration with primary care providers and other specialists to evaluate undifferentiated endocrine disorders and deliver high-quality, patient-centered care in a rural setting.

She is experienced in managing insulin pumps and offers in-office dynamic endocrine testing, including oral glucose tolerance tests and cosyntropin (ACTH) stimulation tests. She works closely with primary care and women’s health practitioners at Sacred Heart Mercy Healthcare Center in Alma.

    Behavioral Health

For a long time medicine over emphasized a strictly physiological approach to health issues. The benefit of this approach today is that we have had significant advances in science, medicine and understanding of the biological functions of the human with wonderful tools and approaches to healing and care. But, we also know that the mind has a complex and integral relationship to our physiological health. Rooted in the Catholic healthcare tradition, we have always understood this important interplay between mind, body and soul. For this reason, behavioral health is a core aspect of our comprehensive approach. With trained psychologists and psychiatrists on staff, we walk with patients who are in need of behavioral health care to not just support physical healing but mental healing as well.
